The DD preview...

Thank You Wal-Mart Halloween clearance
for inspiring us to actually have a costume...

for our
2012 Dirty Dash Runs!

We'll need to fix it so he can see.

P.S. we need some Pigs or more birds to join us...

Apple Slices. Finger Slices. ER.

Back on 10/22/11 we went over to my in-laws to can Apples. There trees produced BIG TIME this year. I didn't get pics of the final jars we got done. Didn't get pictures of the process taking place. BUT...i did get pics at the ER in Rupert, ID when i took my MIL to get 3 stitches on the top of her middle finger!

We were in the cleaning up stage of the process and we had the two apple corer/peelers in the sink in hot soapy water. Apparently my MIL reached in and BAM sliced her finger.

So apron on and everything we rushed off to the ER. (i took my apron off...hee hee) My MIL works on the hospital in the Lab as a Vampire...oh i mean phlebotomist...the person that draws your blood. So of course she was totally embarrassed but i think it made it totally fun....for me.

I was joking with my MIL as we waited for the Doctor to come in, if she thought she needed a tetanus shot, since she cut it on some metal. She didn't think so because it wasn't old rusted metal or anything. And then we changed the subject. Well as soon as the Doc walks in i mentioned, we were wondering if she needed a tetanus shot. You should have saw the DIRTY look i got from her. It was hilarious!! The Doc asked her when her last one was and she had no idea, so he thought it would be get to get her 'caught up'. LOL. so funny. Maybe it was one of those "you had to be there things."

But anywhos...I took some pics while there...the staff didn't seem to mind. Small hospital's are good sometimes.

Thanks for not fully flipping me off!
Love ya Linda!

a few more sunrises

Our view of Sunsets is blocked by houses in the neighborhood. One of these days they will continue to build houses in the field behind us. But for now our view is not obstructed. So you get a few more Sunrise pics until then.

Tomatillo Sauce

We have a delicious recipe for a Tomatillo sauce, that goes with another recipe for Chicken Flautas. Which are also delicious! We decided that we should grow Tomatillos and can the sauce. Last year our plants did not produce well, we maybe got around 6-8 pints of finished canned sauce. This year tho was a different story! We canned yesterday THIRTY TWO PINTS of sauce. YAY!!! We are so excited that they all sealed and no broken bottles.

The day was not without its mishaps tho. I sliced my finger on the our Kitchenaid Mandoline about 3 minutes into the process. Yeah that hurt...but NOTHING like missing the funnel into the jar and pouring a scoop of boiling hot tomatillo sauce on Kevin wrist. It burned him good. I felt so horrible. I cried...a few times. I couldn't stop looking at it last night. I still feel horrible.

The stinkin awesome slicer that sliced my finger tip.
Note to everyone....ALWAYS use the hand guard provided!

The OLD STOVE we use to can on.
Works fine...its just slow...and uses alot of little bottles of propane.

Boiling some of the Tomatillos.
(Before you drain them and blend them into sauce)

Kevin wanting to eat the sauce
(That is a 42cup Tupperware mega-bowl!)

In the red bowl is the Extra sauce waiting to go into
the silver pot out on the stove.
(see below)

Kevin by our NEW STOVE! YAY!!!
So much faster and nicer. :)

And our finished 32 pints of Sauce.

Coming up next weekend....canning Apples.
