a few more sunrises

Our view of Sunsets is blocked by houses in the neighborhood. One of these days they will continue to build houses in the field behind us. But for now our view is not obstructed. So you get a few more Sunrise pics until then.

Tomatillo Sauce

We have a delicious recipe for a Tomatillo sauce, that goes with another recipe for Chicken Flautas. Which are also delicious! We decided that we should grow Tomatillos and can the sauce. Last year our plants did not produce well, we maybe got around 6-8 pints of finished canned sauce. This year tho was a different story! We canned yesterday THIRTY TWO PINTS of sauce. YAY!!! We are so excited that they all sealed and no broken bottles.

The day was not without its mishaps tho. I sliced my finger on the our Kitchenaid Mandoline about 3 minutes into the process. Yeah that hurt...but NOTHING like missing the funnel into the jar and pouring a scoop of boiling hot tomatillo sauce on Kevin wrist. It burned him good. I felt so horrible. I cried...a few times. I couldn't stop looking at it last night. I still feel horrible.

The stinkin awesome slicer that sliced my finger tip.
Note to everyone....ALWAYS use the hand guard provided!

The OLD STOVE we use to can on.
Works fine...its just slow...and uses alot of little bottles of propane.

Boiling some of the Tomatillos.
(Before you drain them and blend them into sauce)

(That is a 42cup Tupperware mega-bowl!)

In the red bowl is the Extra sauce waiting to go into
the silver pot out on the stove.
(see below)

Kevin by our NEW STOVE! YAY!!!
So much faster and nicer. :)

And our finished 32 pints of Sauce.

Coming up next weekend....canning Apples.

Summer Tart(s)

Kevin found a recipe in his most favorite cookbook, Lydia's Italy, a recipe for a Tart. We were given a bag of Plums from our friend Tegan and he decided he was going to make a Tart. It turned out SO Yummy! He's made another plum one, a Strawberry/Raspberry one and coming soon...Apple! Can't wait.

Those yellow-ish/white chunks...are butter! yummm

He even made the dough from scratch!

folding it up...

Kevin so proud of his creation.

The finished product!

Twin Falls Fair

Some time in August...or was it September...i don't know...we went to the Twin Falls County Fair with most of the Brown & Harper families. My SIL Barbara had entered some pics she took of her three boys (our nephews) and she WON MANY AWARDS...one being BEST IN SHOW. The pictures she took were really great. I should have taken a snapshot of her standing infront of her pics, but alas i did not. But we did run across one of those things where there is a painted scene and you stick your head in the hole. I thought they turned out pretty good.
